Chapter 2.16:Cookies

“You know, that I’m no good…” 

Her voice was soulful yet angelic, as Toni gracefully brought the song to a close.

 “She’s so good!” I heard Jocelyn whisper during the performance.

As I watched her sing, I felt jealousy fizzle up inside me. With every note, I attempted to find something wrong with her voice, but I just couldn’t. It was nothing short of mesmerizing, and I was only glad that Seymour wasn’t here to see it.

The days went on, and I began to hang out with Toni and the other girls more often. I guess she wasn’t as bad as I thought she was, if you look past the Yellow-foot thing, no matter how hard that may be.

I could never turn down a party, and that’s one thing those girls could do that my friends couldn’t. But don’t be fooled, I definitely won’t be letting my guard down anytime soon!

Finally, Appaloosa Plains had finished the small playground that was put in place of where Gwendolyn’s house used to sit. It was adorable to say the least, and I wanted to make sure my family was the first to break it in!

As much as Salem hated being outside, she couldn’t help but giggle with delight along with Yellow when we put the kids on the spring riders!

Seymour was just excited as the kids were, if not more!

Seymour and I were fully aware that the children were growing faster than we’d like, but unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to stop them.

We knew we’d have to enjoy the time with the little ones while we could, because they’d be starting school in a couple of years.

We took the twins on their first ever broom ride, and although we made a rule that we’re not allowed to fly the broom outside of the broom arena we built, we had to make an exception just this once. After all, it is their first broom ride!

“Hold on tight!” Seymour shouted as we whooshed around the sky.

I really wanted to get the kids acquainted with Aurora Skies, so I had them spend a lot of time with her, as well.

But my favorite activity to do with the kids, by far, was reading them stories!

“‘What big eyes you have!” Said the Big bad wolf!”

One morning, I made my daily trip into the kids’ room to wake them up.

“Sale, get up sleepy head!” I chimed.

“No..” She mumbled.

“Have it your way then.” I whispered, as I laid Yellow down on one side of Salem, and curled up next to her on the other.

The three of us gently dozed off together for about another hour.

Yawning, I nonchalantly sat up. “Okay kids, time to get up. For real this time.”

Yellow sat up quickly, as if he had been waiting for me to get up. Salem however, took her time, and sat up grudgingly.

Yellow curled up behind his sister.

“Morning Sall-um!” He said gleefully.

“Geht off, Lo-lo” She hissed in return.

“Okay, Salem, be nice.” I demanded, leaning back into the bed.

“What’s this? Why are there crumbs in your bed Salem?” I asked feeling around.

“Cookies!” Yellow blurted.

“Cookies!? Where on earth did you get cookies?”

Salem looked up at me and smirked. “Gromma.” She stated.

I had to ask again, “What? Grandma?”

“Yas!”

I sat Yellow down on the floor.

“Lo, go get your daddy up, hurry.”

“Daaaaaaaddyyyyyyyy” He shouted, as he toddled all the way into our bedroom.

Seymour stumbled into the kids’ room, “The little booger said you needed me, what is it?”

“What did I find in your bed this morning, Salem?” I asked.

“Cookies.” She whispered.

“Cookies!? And where did they come from?”

“Gramma!”

Seymour’s jaw dropped. “Oh my god..” He gasped.
